BERLIN 23-25 February 2012
The Transforum conference “Can there be justice in the city?” welcomes you on February 23-25 in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen. Many people suffer due to increasing injustice and social adversity in our cities. Even in the Old Testament, God was not neutral about these issues. He demanded social justice from his people which was to flow out of His covenant with them: “For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice” (Ps. 11:7). Jesus was moved to the core by the spiritual and social misery of the masses: “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them” (Mt. 9:36). His vicarious suffering and death has consequences for those who follow Him: “For the fruit of light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth” (Eph. 5:9). The conference embarks on a discovery tour with the following questions: Where does God’s justice and human justice intersect? Where do they differ? What are the biblical standards? Where is God already at work, bringing about justice through His church in the city? What are some inspiring examples? How do we best address the challenges of our cities, while maintaining the balance between preaching of the Word and caring for social needs? Together we will look for answers and go down this path with Jesus, who is the reason for hope in our society. The conference is designed to be a place of mutual encouragement and critical discussion. We expect attendance from Christians from across generational, denominational and cultural spectrums who are engaged in various churches, projects and organizations. There will be short lectures in plenum as well as podium discussions, reports and creative elements. For more information, see: www.transforum-berlin.de/transforum
